I bought this solely for transporting my chef's knife to other places from home. Because I use a block for my knives, I really didn't need this for knives in the house.
It's excellent. It fits my 10" knife perfectly, and I'm sure it will never pop open. But that's the only flaw--it's difficult to open to put the knife in. I got one clip open, but had to give the other to my husband. I don't have strong hands, though, so this might not be a problem for others. I had no problem with the 6"-8" safe.
